When admitting into the CMPS program, the individual must first complete an initial assessment. This involves meeting with an admissions coordinator so that the coordinator can assess the severity of the incoming patient’s addiction. Once the prescreening has been completed and the severity of the addiction is assessed, the coordinator and patient work together to create a personalized recovery plan by picking and choosing the treatments that best address the patient’s needs from the treatment options, including detoxification, intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient (OP) or individual therapy sessions. Therefore, most patients’ treatment plan at CMPS will be somewhat different due to the extent to which they have been able to choose the treatment that would best assist them to overcome their substance abuse problems.
Through psychotherapy, psychoeducation, and counseling at CMPS, patients discover the underlying psychological and experiential factors that led to his or her development of an alcohol or drug problem, giving him or her the opportunity to cope in a more effective way to ensure sobriety.
Intensive Outpatient Treatment
Admission into the IOP program is based on specific criteria during the pre-screening assessment that determines clinical need and recommended level of intervention. The IOP schedule includes both group and individual therapy sessions. The curriculum focuses on motivational enhancement, including interventions that focus on “stage of change”, addiction education, relapse prevention, introduction into self-help recovery, including 12-Step, Smart Recovery, and other alternatives. Additional CBT and DBT based coping skills and strategies will be introduced, including those focusing on anger management, communication skills, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, relationship skills, mindfulness training, decision making, problem solving, and managing symptoms more effectively.
Admission into the OP program is based on specific criteria during the pre-screening assessment that determines clinical need and recommended level of intervention. Sessions include individual and group therapy, depending on clinical need and recommended treatment based on individualized treatment needs. The OP curriculum focuses on maintaining abstinence, relapse prevention, as well as continued support and practice of tools learned at higher LOC, including CBT and DBT based coping skills and strategies focusing on anger management, communication skills, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, relationship skills, mindfulness training, decision making, problem solving, and managing symptoms more effectively.
Neuropsychological Assessment Services
A neuropsychological evaluation provides an assessment of behavior and thinking skills that relate to brain function. At Comprehensive MedPsych Systems, neuropsychological evaluations are administered without invasive tests, primarily utilizing verbal and written tasks. The neuropsychological evaluation is more complex than a standard psychological evaluation. The assessor will evaluate cognitive areas for potential dysfunction as well as emotional and motivational issues. The pattern of strengths and weaknesses detected will be used to help diagnose condition(s), plan for treatment, and determine the best medication management plan possible.
Individualized Outpatient Psychiatric Services
Psychiatrists may prescribe medications to help with mood, attention or organization of thinking. The psychiatrist might also titrate an individual off of a medication or illicit substance as part of their medication protocol. Patients on medications or titrating from substances will be evaluated by the physician at regular intervals and whenever there is a change in status. It takes several visits to ensure the effects of the medication and/or titration regimen are stable, safe, and effective. The psychiatrist will review the benefits and side effects of the medication with the patient and make adjustments as needed.
